Empty the Tanks 2017 – Los Angeles with the Corky Freedom Banner, CA

Los Angeles

May 13, 2017

Hosted by Matthew Braun

This event will feature the Corky Freedom Banner, a 1.5 mile long banner with artwork and messages contributed from people all over the world. The banner will stretch south from the Santa Monica Pier towards Venice Beach.

Corky is the longest held-captive orca in the world. She was taken from the wild in 1969 and has known nothing but misery in a concrete tank ever since. She has been forced to endure seven pregnancies (she was continually pregnant for almost 10 years from 1977 to 1986), but none of her calves survived more than 46 days. Her last stillborn fetus was found at the bottom of the holding tank. To learn more about Corky, watch this video: https://youtu.be/L3F00M1htfE
