St. Thomas, USVI
May 12, 2018
Hosted by Empty the Tanks
Join us on May 12th, for the Annual Empty The Tanks Worldwide Event. This is a day for everyone around the world to stand up against marine mammal captivity. The abuse and exploitation of these sentient beings has no place in the 21st century.
On Saturday, May 12, 2018, protests and educational events will be held all over world in front of marine mammal parks and aquariums. We need your voice and your dedication to seeing an end to the captivity industry.
Rumor has it that Coral World on St Thomas plans to open a new dolphin exhibit to entertain tourists. This is not something people want to see in the US Virgin Islands. St. Thomas should be striving to be a leader in eco tourism and dolphin exploitation is not a part of that.
Around the world people are waking up to the cruelties of keeping cetaceans in tanks and yet Coral World wants to take a step in the wrong direction and bring this dying industry to USVI.
Join us as we say NO to a new dolphin prison on St. Thomas.
** SIGNS, LITERATURE AND BANNERS PROVIDED. But you are always welcome to create and bring your own sign.
Marine entertainment parks have no place in our world anymore. These are incredibly social, intelligent beings that are being exploited to make money. It is animal slavery, and it needs to be brought to the general public’s attention.
Empty the Tanks is not a radical movement demanding the release of all captive marine mammals into the wild. Some of these animals might be great candidates for release, but those that are not should be retired into sea pens, where they can enjoy the rest of their days in natural seawater, feeling the waves of the ocean around them. They should not be worked until their last breath is taken and then thrown out like trash and replaced.
This is a campaign to educate the general public about what captivity means to cetaceans.
